As we approach the AFLW and W-League finals, Fox Sports has announced a new channel dedicated to women’s sport.

The pop-up ‘FOXW’ channel will broadcast entirely women’s sport for the month of April.

It will notably feature the grand finals of the AFLW and W-League, along with coverage of other sports including cricket, hockey, golf, and surfing.

The channel will also include television premieres of two documentaries produced by Netball Australia and Cricket Australia, on top of  FOXW podcasts and athlete profiles.

Foxtel will also mark International Women’s Day today with a panel discussion streamed on Kayo and Facebook.

It will be broadcast from 8.30 pm AEDT and hosted by Fox Sports’ Yvonne Sampson and feature athletes Sam Kerr, Alyssa Healy, Tayla Harris and Ali Brigginshaw.

Speaking to Mediaweek, Foxtel Group chief content and commercial officer, Amanda Laing, said the profile of women’s sport deserves a boost.

“As Australia’s largest and most experienced producer and broadcaster of elite sports, we are uniquely placed to deliver thousands of hours of coverage which elevates the profile and status of women’s sports and sportswomen,” Laing said.

“By making women’s sports even more visible and accessible, we can not only showcase the incredible talent of our female athletes, but we can play a vital role in inspiring girls and women from across Australia to participate in sports at the community and elite level,” she said.

From today, Foxtel-owned OTT service Kayo will also be making games from all sporting competitions supported by the Federal Government’s women’s, niche and other under-represented sports free.
