FIFAe Launches Challenge To Develop Esports Broadcasts

image

FIFAe, the esports division of global football governing body FIFA, is seeking esports companies to assist in the development of new technologies for football esports and gaming.

Specifically, FIFAe is looking for industry partners to create systems that track biometric data from esports athletes that can be integrated into live broadcast graphics.

This initiative is not FIFAe’s first foray into biometric technology for esports broadcasts. Previously, service provider Mix Effect Media worked with FIFAe to introduce a graphic that displayed players’ heartrates during events such as the 2023 FIFAe finals. The new ‘innovation challenge’ aims to build on this foundation by expanding biometric tracking capabilities.

FIFAe has outlined several areas of interest for the challenge, including the development of technologies that can measure:

  • Eye movement
  • Brain waves
  • Reaction time

By introducing cutting-edge biometric tracking, FIFAe aims to ‘enrich the viewer’s overall experience’ by showcasing the high-performance demands placed on esports athletes. Additionally, this initiative aligns with FIFA’s Strategic Objectives of the Global Game 2023-2027, specifically goal three, which focuses on enhancing esports broadcasts and viewing experiences.

Since parting ways with EA, FIFA’s esports division has expanded into various gaming titles, including Football Manager, eFootball, and Rocket League.

Further expanding its gaming presence, FIFA partnered with developer Mythical Games in November 2024 to unveil FIFA Rivals, a new arcade-style mobile football game.

Set to launch later this year on Mythical’s platform, FIFA Rivals will allow players to build their own football clubs.
