IBA’s Foundation, the International Basketball Foundation (IBF), has launched a new ‘Basketball For Good’ digital platform, following FIBA’s inclusion in the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework.
The IBF aims to use the power of basketball to initiate positive social change globally through the platform, showcasing the Basketball For Good projects the Foundation runs globally.
The IBF developed the Basketball For Good programs in 2016, now running 15 projects across 64 countries, reaching 28 000 youth around the world, with the new platform allowing individuals to make donations, offer equipment or services to support the projects, or find out about volunteering opportunities.
IBF president, Horacio Muratore, said the platform will now become a central hub for the entire Basketball For Good community, which extends to FIBA’s stakeholders such as its National Federations, leagues, clubs, NGOs, and individuals using basketball to initiate positive change.
“We are very happy to launch our new platform as it will not only be a great way for us to display the impact that our projects have, but it will also allow us to showcase all the good that our basketball family creates throughout the world,” Muratore said.
The IBF also added the mission is to promote peace, social cohesion, inclusion and gender equality as well as facilitating dialogue and communication between communities, encouraging education, well-being, training and responsibility amongst vulnerable youth, through the practice of basketball and using its values as a vector.
