Global over-the-top streaming service, DAZN, has revealed an exciting collaboration with the international basketball governing body, FIBA, to bring the Courtside 1891 streaming product to a global audience.
In this agreement – facilitated in partnership with sports agency Two Circles – Courtside 1891 will be available as a standalone offering on DAZN’s platform, providing viewers with access to a diverse range of FIBA national team basketball competitions. This move marks a departure from DAZN’s traditional sports offerings and highlights its commitment to delivering premium basketball content to fans worldwide.
Courtside 1891 will feature an extensive line-up of FIBA international competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups, relevant qualifiers, Continental Cups, and Youth World Cups. Additionally, viewers can expect coverage of prominent FIBA club-level competitions such as the Basketball Champions League and the women’s category of the EuroLeague competition.
The partnership emphasises DAZN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its relationship with FIBA, building upon their joint venture established in 2016 within the FIBA Media business responsible for distributing FIBA’s media rights. The involvement of Two Circles agency, a joint venture partner with FIBA in Courtside 1891, further solidifies the collaboration.
“FIBA is very pleased to announce this partnership with DAZN, which represents an important extension of the distribution and visibility of FIBA’s major events through the Courtside 1891 product,” said Frank Leenders, FIBA Media and marketing services director general.
“Furthermore, this addition to the already expansive partnership between FIBA and DAZN is an example of the synergies we have achieved together.”
The addition of Courtside 1891 to DAZN’s platform follows a similar model to the NFL Game Pass service, indicating DAZN’s willingness to diversify its content library by hosting standalone services of other sports. This aims to attract a broader subscriber base and solidify DAZN’s position as a premier destination for sports enthusiasts globally.
“DAZN already has a strong portfolio of basketball on our platform. Basketball is the third most watched sport on DAZN and we have big ambitions to become a primary destination for fans of the sport across the world,” added Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN.
“We have had a long and collaborative relationship with FIBA, and I look forward to working ever more closely with them and other partners to bring this premium action to basketball fans.”
With rights to prominent basketball competitions such as the NBA, WNBA and Euroleague in select regions, DAZN is well-positioned to elevate the viewing experience for basketball enthusiasts.
