BWT Alpine Formula One Team has officially announced the appointment of Steve Nielsen as managing director.
Beginning on September 1, Nielsen will take the reins of day-to-day operations at the Enstone headquarters, just ahead of the upcoming Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
This marks an important return for Nielsen, a well-respected veteran in the realm of Formula One, who has held multiple roles at Enstone during his tenure with Benetton and Renault, most notably as sporting director during the successful championship campaigns of 2005 and 2006.
Nielsen’s experience extends beyond his time at Enstone. He has made valuable contributions to other teams and most recently held influential positions at the FIA and Formula One, showcasing a deep understanding of team management and racing operations.
Notably, Nielsen played a crucial role in orchestrating the return to racing amidst the challenges posed by the global health pandemic in 2020.
The appointment of Nielsen comes on the heels of several strategic hires by BWT Alpine Formula One Team, aimed at strengthening various aspects of the organisation.
Recent additions include Kris Midgley, who will serve as head of aerodynamic development, and Guy Martin, appointed as global marketing director.
Midgley, who will be under the guidance of executive technical director David Sanchez, brings a bunch of experience from his previous role at Enstone between 2007 and 2013.
His position at Ferrari as principal aerodynamicist adds further depth to the technical department, particularly as the team prepares for the upcoming regulatory changes set to take effect in 2026.
On the marketing front, Guy Martin joins the team from Visa, where he has been marked in shaping the brand’s sponsorship and partnership strategy.
His experience encompasses leading negotiations with rights holders, overseeing on-site activations and operational delivery, as well as driving commercialisation efforts for various properties, including the Visa CashApp Racing Bulls Team, FIFA, the Olympic Games, NFL International, Disney, the Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIA Formula E Championship.
Furthermore, Martin’s previous ventures into new entertainment sectors, such as music and gaming, showcase his ability to enhance fan engagement and attract new audiences.
