Cricket Australia has unveiled plans for the Boxing Day Test Summer Fest, a free four-day festival that will run alongside the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test between Australia and England at the MCG.
Staged in Yarra Park from 26–29 December 2025, the initiative is a joint effort between Cricket Australia, the Victorian Government, and the City of Melbourne. Designed to extend the atmosphere of the iconic event beyond the boundary, the festival will showcase live music, food trucks, bars, and family-friendly activities.
Fans will also be able to watch the Ashes action live on big screens set up across the park, creating a secondary venue for those without tickets to the MCG. Interactive cricket zones will offer skill challenges for children and families, while entertainment and giveaways will add to the carnival atmosphere.
Last year’s Boxing Day Test drew record crowds, and with England’s travelling supporter base—the Barmy Army—returning in full for the first time since 2017, the 2025 edition is expected to deliver another significant boost to the city.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said the Summer Fest would highlight “the best of Melbourne and Victoria,” noting that it would add to the anticipation surrounding what could be the biggest Boxing Day Test in history.
Victorian Tourism and Major Events, Minister Steve Dimopoulos, emphasised the event’s ability to attract fans of all ages, while Melbourne Lord Mayor, Nick Reece, described Yarra Park as “the ultimate place for fans to follow the action, soak up the atmosphere and have a wicket good time.”
For Cricket Australia, the festival marks a continuation of efforts to diversify matchday experiences, ensuring that the Boxing Day Test maintains its standing as one of the most significant fixtures in world cricket.
By blending sport, culture, and community engagement, the event aims to reinforce Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s “major events capital” and elevate the Boxing Day Test beyond the boundaries of the MCG.
