American Express Named Official Payments Partner of the NFL

The National Football League (NFL) and American Express have announced a multi-year global partnership, naming American Express the league’s Official Payments Partner starting with the 2026 NFL season.

The partnership integrates American Express into the league’s most high-profile “tentpole” events, including the NFL Draft, Super Bowl, and the NFL International Games.

The move leverages a highly valuable demographic; according to internal data, nearly 80% of U.S. American Express Consumer Card Members identify as sports fans.

Commenting on the partnership, NFL EVP and chief revenue officer, Renie Anderson, noted that Amex has a proven track record of elevating major sports moments.

In addition, American Express CMO, Elizabeth Rutledge, described the partnership as a “natural extension” of the company’s commitment to delivering meaningful membership perks.

Global Expansion and the Melbourne Season Opener

A primary pillar of the deal is supporting the NFL’s aggressive international growth.

American Express will provide Amex Presale Tickets® for all league-owned International Games, accompanied by localised activations in key global markets.

The partnership’s first major activation targets the Australian market. From 31 March to 5 April 2026, Card Members will have exclusive presale access to the 2026 NFL Melbourne Game. This season-opening clash between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers is scheduled for Thursday, 10 September 2026, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

On-Site Utility and “Fast-Track” Fan Experiences

The partnership aims to reduce friction for fans at high-capacity events through several “priority” service layers:

  • NFL Draft (Pittsburgh): Amex will host an open-to-all fan experience alongside priority lanes for select NFL-operated attractions. Eligible members can also access a dedicated Card Member Lounge and on-site retail promotions at the NFL Shop.
  • Club-Level Integration: Building on existing deals with the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins, Card Members will continue to receive dedicated stadium entrances, fast lanes, and concessions offers at home venues.
  • Super Bowl LXI: Exclusive on-site activations and hospitality suites will be available for the 2027 championship game in Los Angeles.

New Financial Product: The NFL Extra Points Amex

Later in 2026, the partnership will extend into the fintech space with the launch of the NFL Extra Points American Express® Credit Card. Issued by Comenity Capital Bank, the card will allow U.S. fans to earn rewards redeemable for merchandise, game tickets, and “one-of-a-kind” NFL events, further embedding the Amex brand into the daily spending habits of the football faithful.
