ootball Federation Australia (FFA) has announced the 2019/20 A-League season has reached record numbers of digital fan engagement.
FFA head of leagues, Greg O’Rourke, said the numbers are a strong indicator of the health of the competition and the commitment levels of fans, even during a global pandemic that forced the season to be suspended.
“Year on year, the Hyundai A-League has seen a 30% growth in digital followers and a 15% increase in engagements also over that time,” O’Rourke said.
“We now have more followers, that are even more engaged, than in previous years.
“These numbers continue to grow and compliment our broadcast offerings via Fox Sports, Kayo, ABC TV, and the MyFootball Live app,” he said.
The year-on-year data comparisons were made from the periods of August 2018 – August 2019 and August 2019 – August 2020, meaning the data, which was provided by Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and CrowdTangle, includes the A-League’s digital output during the season suspension from March to July.
FFA announced the digital success in the lead up to the A-League Finals Series, which began on Saturday (August 22) and is set to be finalised on Sunday (August 30), with all games to be played at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta.
