2020 Australian Open Delivers Growth Across Crowd And Tv Audience

Tennis Australia has smashed its previous Australian Open attendanceĀ record of 796,435 in 2019 with more than 812,174 fans attending the tournament in Melbourne over the 14 day period.

Media coverage saw almost 900 matches covered across all draws, with a total of 21 courts providing access to live cameras at any one time across Melbourne Park.

Data from television measurement provider OzTAM revealed a 17 per cent increase in audience across the two-week Australian Open tournament compared with the previous year.

The Australian Open, which concluded on Sunday night, averaged 531,660 metropolitan viewers and 726,935 when including regional areas.

In 2018, the Open averaged 453,381 in the capital cities – a figure that media buying agencies rely on – and 622,307 nationally.

Melbourne Park also had 850 square metres of digital LED screens installed across all three stadiums at Melbourne Park ā€“ Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and Melbourne Arena.

Online, theĀ ausopen.comĀ website had 9.53 million unique users, an increase of 50.5% from last tournament with the top five countries visiting the site being Australia, United States, Germany, India and the UK.

During the event, more than 2050 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots participants played on Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne Arena, show courts and multiple outside courts ahead of the day sessions.

More than 180,000 children and parents experienced the AO Ballpark presented by Emirates and the AO Hilltop, double the 2019 figure of 80,000

Prior to the tournament, a record 19,454 people attended Kids Tennis Day on Saturday 18th January.
